Green: The color of Irish clothing

The subject of Irish clothing can included everything from Ireland's soccer jerseys to traditional Irish cloaks. However, no matter what the article of clothing may be, it wouldn't be irish clothing if it wasn't green.

The color of green began to represent the Irish people when Irish Catholics protested their persecution by wearing shamrocks on their clothing. The government saw this as an act of rebellion and hung anyone who dared to wear the shamrock. However, when the Irish soldiers in the Queen's army fought bravely for her, the Queen decided to honor them by distinguishing them with the presentation of a green shamrock to all Irish soldiers on St. Patrick's Day. From then on, the Irish have been associated with the color green and have worn it proudly.

Nowadays, every piece of Irish clothing contains a hint of green. This may be in green and white checkers, flannel, or just a small shamrock near the heart. Even the school colors of Notre Dame University, home of the "Fighting Irish" are green and gold. Everything related to the Irish people and their culture is now represented en masse by the color green.
