Finding your gift: Irish gift stores

Irish gift stores are a logical place to begin your hunt for the perfect Irish gift. However, as with any gift shop, you should be careful when shopping at irish gift stores. Although there are many honest people in the world, there also exist people that try to rip you off. This doesn't mean you should walk into the store with a preconceived notion that they are going to try to con you. Rather, you should think the opposite until some warning flags start to go up.

First, follow all general shopping tips when purchasing expensive gifts. If they claim something is expensive because it is antique, ask a lot of questions. When and where it was made, by whom, and the journey it took to get there are some question you can ask. If they have a hard time answering these questions, it might be better to hold off on the purchase. Also, trying to look for similar items online and getting a price range is a good way to find out if you're getting ripped off or not. Of course you want to do this before you walk into your Irish gift shop and purchase a gift.

Another thing to look for is a return policy. If they don't have one, I would not only hesitate, but think two, three, four, even 5 times before buying. Don't ever let the shopkeeper persuade you into buying anything. Make sure it's of your own accord and that you are sure you want the item.

Not all Irish gift stores are out to rip you off, but taking precautionary measures never harmed anyone. Actually, most gift shops will be helpful in your choosing and provide great input in what's popular and what's not. But, there are the occasional dishonest people that you should be aware of and that's who we are trying to avoid.
